Keep Them Wild

Fur farming harms animals, wildlife, and the ecosystems we share with them. Together with The Fur-Bearers and We Animals. the Canadian Conservation Photographers Collective (CCPC) calls for a national ban, with support for farmers ready to move on.

What is fur-farming?

Fur farms are commercial facilities built with the explicit purpose of keeping fur-bearing animals in captivity in order to breed them or produce pelts.

A variety of species are held in fur farms, mink being among the most common.

What are the risks of
fur-farming?

The damage from fur farming reaches far beyond the animals in cages. Research from Canada and around the world links mink farms to genetic contamination of wild species, disease transmission between animals and humans, and lasting pollution of our freshwater ecosystems.

What are the solutions to fur-farming?

Countries like Denmark, Belgium, and Ireland have already moved past fur farming, using compensation programs to help farmers transition quickly and fairly. Former fur farms have become solar farms, orchards, and even a microbrewery. With the right policies and public pressure, Canada can build a post-fur future that works for farmers, wildlife, and public health.
